The original Suzuki Vitara was the forerunner of all current lifestyle 4x4 vehicles. The larger Grand Vitara arrived many years later in 1998 with beefed up styling, and more refined and comfortable interior.
One of the advantages of the Grand Vitara is a 'Drive Select' 4x4 system – which enables the driver to change from two-wheel to four-wheel drive high ratio on the move and in a straight line at up to 62 mph.
3-door version sits on a 2200 mm wheelbase and in addition to a normal off-roader, there's the choice of a buggy-like soft-top version as well.

Latert flagship version is called XL-7. As its name suggest it can seat up to seven people in three rows of seats. When the secon and third row seats are floded there's a loda capacity of 1,492 litres. Overall length is 4,700 mm making the XL-7 larger than an RAV4 and a shade smaller than a Mitsubishi Shogun.
